2003 Catalina Overnight
a Smokey Success!
Ten boats from the SCOPE club headed to Catalina Island for the Fall
Overnight Trip. Board member Greg Rice did a superb job in coordinating
the trip and setting it up. Joe Fetchel, Kevin Schulte and Chris Prouty
attended also for the day. The Lyall power walk did not happen as planned
due to fog and smoke (huge LA area fires were ongoing). Lunch was great as
we all dined at the Blue Parrott, Stan Leder showed up late for lunch? He
was in a different set of clothes and his hair was wet? I'm sure this will
all come out during the Christmas Party!

Once again the post lunch Big Olafs Stan Leder Ice Cream ceremonial
took place, Greg Rice provided the crew with gift certificates!
The afternoon was spent shopping and cursing the Catalina Boardwalk
then off to the Hotel. We missed the cocktail hour so Tom, Jason and I
went beer shopping at the golf club. Dana and Kelly were there watching
the SC game. Fifty bucks later we headed back to poolside with some beers
in plastic bags. Once back at poolside it was apparent that the beers may
last only a few minutes and we had no munchies. The girls also wanted
Margaritas....Matt and Lee were out cruising in one of Buddy's golf carts
so we hailed them by cell phone...Shannon was picked up to aid in the
Margarita supplies.
"Order please"...Matt returned after fighting his way through
the picketers with beers, pretzels, salsa and chips. The white trash
pool party was on!
That evening was a group dinner at Antonio's! Great food and fun!!!
Mark Lawrence and Martin finally made it in and to dinner a bit late. Once
dinner was wrapped up it was off to the Chi Chi Club!
The dance floor was packed with the SCOPERS bustin their moves! Dana,
Kelly, Jason, Monica, Steve, Maria, Stan , Kate, Tom, Shannon and of
course Chi Chi Club dance legend .....Lu Lyall bustin the moves!!! Lee,
his brother, and Matt watched in Horror!
It was a great long evening! The next morning some left early and the
rest dined at The Busy Bee then walked around......another stop at Big
Olafs and we were headed out. The boats were covered in ash and soot it
was a mess...
A great weekend!!! Thanks to all who participated!
