Sunday's Events!!!
Sunday rolls around and it's finally Poker
Run DAY!!!!! The day starts pretty early with minor cleanup from the night
before, and sleepy poker run attendees start to stagger into the compound
for hot coffee and Krispy-Kream donuts.
Now the adrenaline is starting to pump up
as the drivers meeting starts at 8:00am to explain rules and the do/don'ts
for the run. All the photo and video helicopters are given the GO
and everything is running on time in traditional SCOPE fashion! Two
courses and three starts and all the boats are off to either Catalina
Island (31 miles) for the long course, or to Newport (15 miles) for the
short course. The water is smooth and fast with easy
rollers. The first boat to Catalina Island is Matt Alcone in his
forty-foot Skater with twin Mercury 900SC's........IN TWELVE
MINUTES!
Later, the cards are opened and each hand
recorded in hopes of winning the $10,000 Grand Prize (or at least one of
the prizes!). This year SCOPE handed out over $30,000 in cash prizes to
the best poker hands and other winners.
