Rocks the Dock with Poker Run #11!!!
The
boys and girls of SCOPE just completed their 11th Annual Poker Run
this past weekend and it was a riot. Held in Long Beach,
California, there were 156 registered boats...some of the finest
hardware you have ever seen!!! It was a three day event starting
with the annual kickoff party at Tequila Jacks...it was a wild
evening to say the least. Saturday morning was the charity rides
for the charity, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Entrants gave
charity rides to the children and families associated with this disease.
The In-N-Out Burger Truck cooked up some double-double hamburgers
for lunch and the afternoon was filled with paddle boat races and
many of the registrants headed to Newport Beach and Catalina for a
relaxing lunch.
Saturday night was another wild night with a rocking DJ and some
classic music, the kids were entertained with Hot Wheel Racing and
there were black jack tables around the compound for the hot
gamblers in the crowd. Following the compound party, many of the
guests headed back to the main bar at the Hyatt Regency.
Bob Teague, the event title sponsor lead the fleet out of the
breakwater and dropped the flag as the boats came to plane and
zoomed towards Avalon. Helicopters chased the fleet as still and
video pictures were taken. Over $27,000 in cash prizes were given
out at the awards ceremony Sunday afternoon. Everyone walked away
looking forward to next year's run. There were countless OSO
members in attendance including the two board gods!!!!
There were also a few World Champion Offshore Champions in
attendance as well as some of the leading marine manufacturers in
the world...names such as Randy Scism, Larry Smith and Bob Leach.
Championship drivers included Bob Teague, Matt Alcone, Gerry
Gilbreth, Craig Ferguson, Rique Ford, Rick Bowling and probably
many more that I forgot to mention.
Famous names in the business were also in attendance....Bob Teague
had a great display of parts and equipment, Fred Inman from Imco,
Paul Pfaff from Paul Pfaff Racing Engines, Bill Faunteroy had the
big Lifeline rig at dockside. Once again, mother nature cooperated
and we had three great days of weather.
Just another major league blowout by the team from SCOPE. Just an
incredible venue. The world famous Jesse James was in attendance
with his digital camera in hand...along with the legendary Phantom
Chaos!!!!! No escaping the camera at this event!!!!

What
a Weekend!!!
Well the weekend has come and
gone, but the memories I am sure will last forever, or till next
year and we try and out do ourselves again.
Let's get this party started...right, well that is just what we
did, Friday night at Tequila Jacks in Shoreline Village, it was a
blast, this was the place to see some old friends and make new
ones too, what a great way to start the weekend.
Come Saturday at the docks everyone seemed to know one
another...whether you needed help tying up your boat, or having
someone offer you a cool drink, the example of what we define as
ELITE in SCOPE was being represented.
Saturday was truly a rewarding day, seeing the smiling faces of
the children and families through the help and support of the JDRF
during the charity boat rides was what I think the best compliment
we could get, I thank everyone who participated and volunteered
their boat for this part of the event, here is a quote from a 4th
grader named Paul who said- (That was an 11 out of a 10 best).
Saturday night, well the fun didn't stop, good food, drinks flowin,
and the DJ rockin, and the auction sellin, the tent's were the
best party in town.
Sunday morning, boy that came pretty quick, as much work as it
was, and as tired as I was, I was ready to rewind back to Friday
night, but the coffee and Krispy Kreme got me pretty amp'ed, so I
was now ready to go boating.
After the run, the compound was ready for round two like the night
before, the food and drinks were flowing and Mac the DJ was rockin...the
sun was shinning and everyone was anticipating if they were
holding the winning hand.
This was my 4th SCOPE Poker Run, I would have never thought back
at my first SCOPE Poker Run I would have become so involved and be
apart of such an ELITE group like SCOPE.
I wish to thank you all once again, to all the sponsors and
especially Bob and Andrea Teague for all their support and effort
that they put fourth for the club.
A big thanks to the SCOPE BOD- Ron Songrath, Chuck Buehler, Greg
Bell, Lu Lyall, Sean Clancy, Norton Alderson, Wayne Lee, Greg
Rice, Rob Sherman, Doug Lawrence, and Chris and Andrea Lee...along
with the wives and fellow members who also pitched in and helped
us pull off such a fantastic event.
Last but not least, all the SCOPE Members and Participants who
came out and enjoyed a wonderful weekend, as Wayne puts it when
the sun is shinning, and the compound is rockin and the docks are
knockin...(this is what it is all about) and that is the truth, a
3 day party where everyone is having the time of their life.
Congratulations to Stan & Kate Leder our Grand Prize Winner
($10,000), and congrats to all the other winners as well.
And a special thanks to all the card boats who volunteered for
Queens Gate, Newport Beach, and Avalon.
Thank you all for your support and effort!

Scope Members,
I’d like to thank everyone for their generous support of the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation this past weekend. My
son Paul and I drove up to Long Beach early Saturday morning from
Carlsbad to participate in the JDRF charity ride. Lu and his
first mate Mike took us and another JDRF family out on the water
for what my son scored an 11 out of 10 boat ride. The SCOPE
people were incredibly kind a generous to us this past Saturday.
I’m sure Paul is telling everyone in his 4th grade class
today about how much fun he had. Your organization really
made our day. Thanks so much.
