Great Water and Weather
Turn Up for San Diego!
The
2004 annual SCOPE San Diego trip was another huge success.
About 15 boats participated in this years trip. Others drove down or flew in for
the fun and party. Even Craig Barrie, President of Dragon Powerboats
(and the lovely Linda) came to relax! Unbelievably,
no major
mechanical failures!! For the trip, most of the
boats left the Newport Harbor area on Thursday morning, July 7th at 9:30AM.......and headed for San Diego. Others trailered down to the area
while still others from the club managed to drive down on other days just
to mingle and go boating with friends. The
weather was overcast on the way down, but the water was great. We stopped
at Mission
Bay on the way down and had lunch at the BareFoot Bar and Grill. During the
three days at the Loews Coronado Resort in San Diego, members and
friends enjoyed the pool side cocktails in the resort's pool area that pretty much filled the
beautiful sunny daylight hours, while the the evenings were filled with
dining adventures in the famed Gas-Lamp District of downtown. Some
pretty good "poodle" action happened throughout the trip such as
lines wrapped in a prop while docking (Jeffrey Cheng) and other similar
things, but the HUGE poodle action was by Jimbo (Jim Dunphy) breaking his
leg in three places while doing a cannonball into the resort pool. After
spending nearly 48 hours in the hospital with surgery, Jimbo managed to
get back to the pool on Saturday afternoon and we all wish the DAP a quick and
complete recovery. Happy Birthday to Misty!!!! Also,
some members took advantage of the newly opened resort spa for personal
relaxation and massages! Also, the newly opened USS Midway Museum was
anther item we took advantage of. The 1001 foot aircraft carrier is a
great thing to see while there. Our trip
planner Jeffrey Cheng puts together a great trip including a bus, discount
tickets with first entry to the USS Midway, and a
great night out at the popular Yardhouse!!! Thanks Jeffrey!!! Quite
a few new SCOPE members came on this trip and we hope you enjoyed your
time with a bunch of fellow boat-heads and SCOPE members! For
next year's trip, be sure not to miss this awesome boating venue in the
most active boating area on the west coast!
